The Fortune is a story item found near the walk-in entrance of Cave 6 - Lawyer Cave, as well as in the Cave 6 room filled with lawyer heads. There are multiple copies of the exact same item, scattered everywhere in its location.

It is a fortune strip from a news paper, and the text says "A dark haired person who is trying to harm you will soon disappear from your life and you will be extremely happy". The strip also reveals lucky numbers, such as the type used to play the lottery. Once picked up, it gets put in the notes section of the survival guide.

Additionally, a book can be found in Cave 6 called "The Dark Haired Man Book". It can be examined, but will not be added to the notes section upon discovery, similar to a crucifix.

The amount of these that can be found is rather bizarre. The room with lawyer heads has a dozen plus of these lying around, meaning someone (not a cannibal) cut them out and threw them everywhere. This is either an oversight by the developers or intentional to make sure the player finds it and is "creeped out" by the multitude. It is also possible that the fortunes were left by Mathew Cross after he killed the lawyers, as not only is there a document nearby with balance scales drawn in his signature red paint, but seeing as Mathew was recently divorced by, and received a restraining order from his wife (both of which require legal action, thus a lawyer.), he could perceive them as trying to harm him. This theory is also supported by the fact that the fortunes mention a dark haired person, and all of the lawyers found in the cave have dark hair.

  • Fortune card is coming from a Fortune teller machine - Zoltar. A fortune teller machine (also known as a genie machine or mechanical genie) is a type of amusement automaton, which upon receiving credit gives out a card with a prediction of the reader's future. This is typically given by an automaton. They could be found in penny arcades, and can be seen in modern video arcades and amusement parks.
  • This particular strip is coming from a real-life fortune card as seen on this link from 2011.
